Francis deSouza

Chief Operating Officer, Google Cloud

Francis deSouza is the Chief Operating Officer at Google Cloud, where he leads strategic operations across the organization.

Francis joined Google after three decades as an engineer, technology executive, entrepreneur, board member and investor. Prior to Google, Francis co-founded SynthLabs, an AI alignment company backed by Microsoft and First Spark. Before that, he served as CEO of Illumina, where he led the company's growth and innovation in DNA sequencing, and as President at Symantec, where he oversaw the security and data management portfolio. Francis also co-founded IMlogic, an IT security company that was acquired by Symantec, and Flash Communications, an instant messaging company acquired by Microsoft.

Francis is on the Board of Directors of Deel, and previously served on the Board of Directors of The Walt Disney Company and Citrix. He is passionate about improving life through breakthrough technological advancements. 

Francis graduated from MIT with Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in electrical engineering and computer science and a minor in economics, and was selected for the Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, and Sigma Xi honor societies.
