CoinDesk’s institutional-grade digital asset data is now available within Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services, providing access to real-time crypto intelligence across spot, derivatives, on-chain and news
For more than ten years, CoinDesk Data has sat behind the digital asset workflows that institutions rely on. Today we are bringing that infrastructure somewhere new: directly into Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services from Google Cloud.
The connection is powered by the CoinDesk MCP, our new integration built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard that lets AI applications pull live data from external sources.
The CoinDesk Data & Indices MCP lets users query real-time and historical digital asset market data directly within Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services. Historical data spans spot markets, indices, futures, perpetuals, options and on-chain analytics across all major centralized and decentralized exchanges. All of this, as well as live news, is available through a single, unified interface.
In practice, this means that a research analyst, trader or risk manager can ask a question in natural language and get a response citing institutional-grade market data in seconds.
What you can access
The CoinDesk Data & Indices MCP opens up the full depth of our institutional data through a single interface. That includes settlement-quality benchmarks, exchange-level pricing, funding rates, open interest, order book depth and trade history, drawn from major centralized and decentralized venues. The coverage spans:
- Spot and indices: reference prices and transparent, compliant benchmarks
- Futures and perpetuals: funding rates, open interest, and basis
- Options: implied volatility and Greeks
- On-chain: supply dynamics and network analytics
- News: live headlines from the CoinDesk newsroom
All of it is queried the same way you would ask a colleague. You make your request using natural language, and the data comes back structured and ready to work with.
How to use it
Once the CoinDesk Data & Indicides MCP is enabled in your Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services environment, you can start querying the CoinDesk API without needing to leave your AI environment. There is no query language to learn and no dashboard to navigate.
A few examples of what that looks like in practice:
Track positioning around a macro event. Ask something like: “Show me BTC funding rates and open interest across major perpetual venues over the past 24 hours.”
Build a market briefing. Combine sources in a single request: “Summarize the last 48 hours of ETH price action alongside on-chain supply changes and the top headlines.”
Run options analytics on demand. Ask: “Pull the current implied volatility surface and Greeks for BTC options expiring this month.”
Because everything runs inside Gemini Enterprise, the output lives alongside the rest of your work, ready to be summarized, charted or built into a longer workflow.
Why it matters
Analysts spend a lot of time moving between terminals, spreadsheets and data feeds. Pulling that data into the AI environment where research already happens removes a step, and it does so without trading away quality. The same institutional-grade infrastructure that powers our benchmarks and indices is what answers the question.
“CoinDesk Data has provided the infrastructure behind digital asset workflows for over ten years, and we are thrilled to bring that capability into Gemini Enterprise,” said Toby Winterflood, Vice President, Product Management, CoinDesk Data & Indices. “This is a meaningful step forward for teams who want to move faster without compromising on data quality, and it makes professional-grade market intelligence more accessible.”
“Agentic workflows are transforming how financial institutions analyze complex markets and make decisions,” said Satish Thomas, Vice President, Google Cloud. “By bringing CoinDesk’s institutional-grade asset intelligence directly into Gemini Enterprise through
open standards like MCP, we are empowering analysts and traders to query real-time market data in natural language and streamline their workflows.”
