MUNICH – Nov. 12, 2025 – Google Cloud today announced the launch of its first Sovereign Cloud Hub in Munich, Germany, underscoring its deep commitment to European innovation. Co-located with Google Cloud’s security and privacy engineering hub, this new facility provides a dedicated space where regional customers and partners can deeply engage with Google Sovereign Cloud solutions.
Google Cloud has been committed to advancing digital sovereignty for nearly a decade, empowering customers with control and choice in the cloud. Google Cloud today offers the industry’s broadest portfolio of sovereign cloud solutions – Google Cloud Data Boundary, Google Cloud Dedicated, and Google Cloud Air-Gapped – which provide organizations with complete control and data sovereignty without compromising innovation.
As organizations, particularly those in the public sector and regulated industries, accelerate digital transformation and the adoption of generative AI, the need for robust assurances regarding data security, privacy, and control have become paramount. The new Sovereign Cloud Hub aims to simplify the complexities of navigating these evolving technological and regulatory landscapes by allowing organizations to:
- Explore hands-on demonstrations of Google Cloud's breadth of sovereign cloud solutions, including interactive demos on data residency and control, operational transparency, and software integrity.
- Participate in proof-of-concept projects, collaborating with Google Cloud experts to build and test solutions tailored to specific needs.
- Access training programs designed to equip them with the knowledge and skills to effectively deploy and manage sovereign cloud environments.
- Connect with regional partners who are leveraging Google Cloud’s sovereign technology to provide customized local expertise and services.
Advancing Sovereign AI and Tailored Cloud Solutions
Capturing the benefits of AI is vital for Europe’s future innovation, and the EU’s estimated €1.2 trillion1 GDP opportunity from generative AI depends on its ability to adopt and adapt this technology. AI adoption requires a substantial build-out of stable, efficient, and resilient cloud infrastructure that fully respects data sovereignty, enabling value creation for the European digital economy.
Google Cloud works with a number of independent regional operating partners, including Schwarz Group and T-Systems (Germany); Thales with S3NS (France); Minsait (Spain); Telecom Italia (Italy); Clarence (Belgium and Luxembourg); Accenture, NTT DATA, and World Wide Technology (United States); CNTXT (Saudi Arabia); and KDDI (Japan), to help deliver sovereign solutions globally.
"The key to unlocking Europe's future is AI," said Marianne Janik, Vice President, EMEA North, Google Cloud. "The Sovereign Cloud Hub will provide a unique setting for our European customers and partners to experience our industry-leading sovereign cloud and AI solutions, get trained, and develop advanced prototypes, while ensuring they meet regulatory compliance."
The hub, which officially opens today, also showcases how sovereign cloud solutions from Google are already transforming European organizations, such as the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), enabling them to deploy workloads with local control and assurance through trusted local partners. The direct interaction and hands-on experience offered by the hub will be instrumental in building trust of Google Cloud’s sovereign offerings across Europe.
“Our commitment to building a sovereign cloud for Europe is built on our deep belief that European organizations should have control over their own digital destiny,” said Jai Haridas, Vice President and General Manager, Regulated and Sovereign Cloud, Google Cloud.
Bavarian Digital Minister Dr. Fabian Mehring: "The opening of Google's first European Sovereign Cloud Hub here in Munich is a powerful testament to Bavaria's position as a leading global hub for technology and innovation. This investment supports our ambitious 'Hightech Agenda Bavaria’. The new Sovereign Cloud Hub will provide access to the latest state-of-the-art sovereign cloud and AI technologies. This is a crucial step in driving a sovereign digital transformation across all sectors, including our public administration, and will empower us to develop and deploy secure, trustworthy, and innovative new services for our citizens and businesses. We are delighted to see Google strengthening its commitment to Bavaria and partnering with us on our journey to become Europe's digital frontrunner. This hub is more than just infrastructure; it's a catalyst for the next wave of innovation made in Bavaria, for Germany and for Europe."
Google Cloud invites European organizations to engage with the new Sovereign Cloud Hub to explore how they can meet their digital sovereignty objectives while accelerating innovation.
